Sue, posing for a picture just before shooting out to work. Sue gave us a tour of Mclean including her place of work (which we couldn't actually see), Colin Powell's neighborhood (fancy!), Ethel Kennedy's house and then took us to Legal Seafoods for supper. |
I didn't take pictures of Bill's gym meet, or our visit to Nancy's nephew
Jamie and wife Barbara - honest to goodness RowHouse owners. The route took us from
New Hampshire Ave to their rowhouse on Florida Ave. You've got to admit, that's pretty
coincidental.
And, lunch of chili half-smokes and vegie chili at Ben's Chili Bowl (click for review of historical eatery: Bens Chili Bowl ) Onward to Savannah and the cobblestone Riverfront... by way of an eerie backed-up traffic Georgia night. |
Savannah Siren.
Rain before seven ... sun by eleven, Deb said. And that's exactly what happened. We took the $23 tour bus - and the first thing they told us was of the FREE historical buses and how to know the proper bus stops. We returned to the Visitor's Center, museum and Whistle Stop Cafe diner just after everything had closed. (The Whistle Stop Cafe is actually the diner from the train NANCY HANKS II!! Per Web research, the Nancy Hanks II ran from Atlanta to Savannah with deluxe coaches and maid and porter service.) |
Forrest Gump sat here - it took a while to find our way back to this bench that I had to get a picture of for Matt (he loves that movie). There are 21 squares in Savannah. And we walked to at least 6 of them in our search. Notice that there is no bench, which definitely complicated the search attempt. The bench apparently is in the elusive Visitor's Center. The Village - Lady Lake, Florida
Deb and I went to the entertainment after supper. It was getting pretty cold by Florida standards ... no more than 10 of us that stayed til the 9:00 pm end. (The band did a great rendition of Proud Mary, requested by guess who.) Deb's Dad gave Nancy a ride to the Village Center. I vote his, the best golf cart in the Village. |
KetchiKan Crab Squares - the chefs. They fed me well. While Deb and her Mom fixed supper, Nancy drank wine, dined on crackers and cheese and went for a ride with Deb's Dad in his fashionable golf cart. We'll save tales of Russ Fuchs/wife Janet visit at the 6 hour marathon gym meet, my tired mouth from talking so much, Smithfield, Krispy Kremes, itchy scalps, lost cars, smokey diners, etc for Vermont Reunion 2003. Oh, one more thing I just remembered...We didn't hear of the Columbia tragedy until Saturday afternoon in Allentown, while Bill was channel surfing in his (Prince William)bachelor pad. Then, while Deb was watching the Sunday morning news, I heard a shrill scream - Dick Standish (!!!), oldest brother of Peg, was reporting live from a Philadelphia news station about a fire. They repeated the newsclip a short time later and I got to see Dick too. Of course, Bill wondered outloud through his bachelor pad door what all the commotion was about. |
