FAIRCHILDREN REUNION LIMERICK 1999

by Sherry Evans

We descended on the coast of Maine the first week-end in June as planned
The year was 1999; the weather was grand
A steady breeze whipped our hair - all colors grey, white and brown
Kathy cooked us a meal that was the toast of the town.

A curious question - do we know what happened to the canoe
Why look at us - call Austin Powers with a you-hoo

Let's see there was Peg & Deb - the planners of all things mysterious
Then Kathy, Lyn and Leslie - die hard reunion groupies and tellers of tall tales hilarious.
Sherry arrived safe and sound carrying bagels and movie.
And despite an incident involving a log, a lawnmower and a church, Nanc arrived groovy.

Fairchildren united once more and 1999 marked it as 10
Peg and Deb forced us to wait for our surprises and we acted liked children
But before dinner on Friday we got our snowglobes.
And we tried not to act like slow-witted nomes.

We followed the spirit of Rachel Carson while Kathy read the tale
Lady slippers were hidden, found and photographed before the departing sail.

Who was the flexible prosecutor, the marginal lawyer and guitar-playing Dave?
But to all this Austin Powers only said, ‘Oh Behave'

We talked of Deb's ballroom and the chaotic library much too large in size.
OK - is it time now for our prize?

We scrambled to Billy's Chowder house for a fabulous meal.
Or is his name really Emma Peal?

The moment had arrived for the door prizes and tickets of red
Peg started the event, then looked at us in dread
Had there been scandal malicious?
Yeah baby, it was shagalicious

Who was the culprit, Peg said, who had marred the plans?
Since Sherry and Nancy were the loudest, it had to be those 2 deadpans
On one count she was right
But I point no finger tonight

The prizes were groovy, far-out and fab
The 10 year reunion was an overwhelming success in our home by the sea
We grabbed our snowglobes and hats and went our separate ways -
richer and wiser for our time together.
When we meet again some of us will be 50.

Mr. UNH did it!

Somehow, Nancy ended up
with TWO doorprizes!
